My friends gave me a plant as a housewarming gift about a year ago. I was never a flowers/plants person so that being said I have no idea how to take care of it. All I do is water it when remember. Today I looked at it and saw that all lower leaves had something on them. Little rusty-brownish spots that can be removed if you rub them off. I wasn't sure what to do so I cut off all leaves that had this stuff on them and cleaned the remaining ones.
The problem is I don't even know what kind of plant I have therefore don't know how to look up for treatment. Can someone help me! I am attaching image of it:

I do believe your plant is a Dieffenbachia. And sounds like you have spider mites.
If you want to keep your houseplants healthy, you need to be able to identify the problem when their appearance is not quite right. Follow these steps to determine if mites are causing trouble.
1. Take a close look at your plant. You may not see mites, but there are other signs that you can watch for.
2. Keep an eye out for very fine webs on the bottoms of the leaves.
3. Check for the mites themselves if you don't see any webs. Use the edge of a sheet of white paper to tap the plant near its base; if mites are present, you will see small, pinpoint sized specks moving around on the paper.
4. Eliminate the mites using a mild insecticide mixed with soapy water.

How can i make my fiance-to-be feel more like my equal?
My fiance-to-be continually tells me that i am too good for her. She loves me and does not want to break up with me, but i just hate having her feel that way. How can i show her that i appreciate her and what we have and make her not feel like i am better than her, but instead that she is the perfect person for me, and is more than my equal? I love her, and i don't want her to have to think about that, and i try to show her by giving her gifts and flowers. What can i do?

Reply:no matter what you do, some people just have confidence problems. they always think that they don't deserve you or that you are too good for them. i don't know what she is like, but buy her something that she would love. it should be something small, but packed with meaning. by her a card to go with it and write her a letter telling her that she is your perfect compliment and no one else in the world would be better with her than you.

But what you should do is go get something hawt and steamy for your man, wrap it in tinfoil, microwave it, then give him the charred remains. Attach a card that says "You set my heart on fire" and your set! makes 3 servings.

Different types of jasmine?
A friend of mine bought a jasmine topiary for me a couple of years ago as a get-well gift -- it smelled wonderful! It had tiny white flowers with the barest of pink in the center. Can anyone tell me what type this is? I've checked out star jasmine (MUCH larger flowers) and its too strong. Thanks much!!

What is the perfect "hostess gift" for the perfect hostess?
I am often invited to a friend's for dinner. She is a perfect hostess. I tried bringing a home made dish, but her dinners and deserts are always perfect and put mine to shame. I tried flowers, and she always has a better table arrangement!!! I am ashamed to bring anything since I am often embarrased when compared to what she already does! I want to show my appreciation for being invited. Any sugguestions would help, as "tis the season" and I am confident she will invite me to others.

I have comfort in the fact that these are consumable items that will be used up and not haunt her for years to come. I placed both items together into one nice gift bag so I looked really cute walking up with a pretty bag. --not really but that's the idea, right?

Mothers day, Fathers Day, Valentines Day, etc etc, why all the HYPE and what does it really mean??
Mothers day is approaching and many many people will be out and about celebrating this day with their Moms, Grandmoms, sisters, wives, etc.
Mothers Day; its the one day I choose to do absolutely nothing; I am a Mom 364 days a year biologically that is, but on that one day, I choose not to celebrate being a Mom, but just being me. Motherhood is forever, so claiming that one day on my terms "Mom-free" feels great, so all the hoopla takes a back seat. No dinners at crowded restaurants, no flowers, gifts, etc. Just leave me be.
Fathers Day: Same applies here! My husband thinks its meaningless, so just saying "happy fathers day is enough for him", works for me.
Valentines Day; Same rules apply; no flowers, candy,cards, etc., We call each other on the phone or text, or email "Happy Valentines day" and enough said!!
To each his own, but why all the hype??
Treat me and others special everyday, not just one day!

You are absolutely correct. It's just a way for the card , candy and flower people to make money. Everyone should be treated good every day!
Reply:It's just a day where all of your appreciation for your loved one come's out, wheter it's your mother, father, grandmother, etc. To show your love for that person and show and tell them you appreciate everything that they have ever taught you, showed you, and has done for you.

We don't make it a big event, just a day that we spend together because I'm really grateful for my parents. Life is short, no one is guaranteed tomorrow....why NOT make a day to honor the special people in our lives????

Reply:Oh my goodness the 'Bah Humbug' has bitten you hasn't it? I have wonderfull memories of little hands, hand made presents, a specially chosen gift from the school Mother's Day stalls. I still have one bought for $2.00 when my daughter was 6 years old, I can still see her beaming face.
These days are what we make it for our loved one's and ourself. I would not deny my children the pleasure of celebrating this day with me. There are no big presents as being in their presence is enough for me. And these days are part of their memory banks for when I'm not around any more.
My Mum is still alive and she loves having her family recognise how lucky we are to have her as head of the family still.
Each to their own I guess, my Dad died 35 years ago and I contact my Mum on Father's Day and she finds this quite funny. As I tell her, "if Dad was alive I would be ringing him" so I ring you.
I live inter-state from my Mum.
