Hoping someone has a great idea for me. My 87 year oldgrandmother is coming for Xmas?

and I need help thinking of a gift. I have done the whole flowers thing, the jewelry thing many times, family pictures and music boxes. Last year gave her a blanket, one year beautiful placemats. She is very special to me and my kids. I do not have a lot on money to spend this year either maybe $30, so try to keep that in mind.

I'm sure just being with her family is gift enough, especially if you show her the appreciation you feel for her.

I also like these flameless candles from Brookstone. (You can get cheaper ones at Target.) They are battery operated, so very safe, and smell really good.

Some nice hand lotion would probably be appreciated as well.

You might also have your children work on something to give her, such as a scrapbook.
Reply:I suggest something homemade. Family photo collage framed, handprints...something really personal.
Reply:How old are your kids? I love the idea of doing hand prints in clay, if they're little. If they're older, obviously this isn't quite as cute! Anything home-made is nice. I find that older people don't really want or need much in the way of "stuff," so something sentimental or that can be used is enjoyed more.

What about a table runner? You can get some gorgeous ones for not a lot of money. Art is always nice as well, or maybe a small scrapbook made by you and the kids. Is there a senior's centre in your area, or a rec centre that offers senior's classes? Maybe you could sign her up for something that she's interested in, like crib, bridge or scrapbooking.
Reply:How about offering her a service instead of a gift? I had a friend who paid for a whole year's housecleaning service for his elderly parents, and they appreciated that very much! If you can't afford to pay for a whole year, how about getting them a one-time maid service. If your grandmother doesn't live too far away from you, you could give her self-made vouchers where you will go to her home and help with the cleaning/washing/ironing/gardening, etc.

The other thing you could do is make a little scrapbook filled with your memories of her, together with photos. You could also make a scrapbook about yourself and the important things that have happened to you this year - I'm sure she will appreciate getting to know you a little better :) The other thing you could do is find out how she spends her time or what her hobbies are, and then you can get something to help her with that.
