Do you think gift/flower giving on a first date is a no-win situation? See below.?

If you don't give a gift/flowers, you're a cheapskate, if you do, you're kissing butt. What to do?

Do you think gift/flower giving on a first date is a no-win situation? See below.?
I don't think of it as kissing @ss - I see it more as "If nothing else, at least you will have something beautiful to take home with you."

My "thing" is a single long-stemmed red rose - classic (and classy), but not too overbearing. An elaborate setup is for a wedding or a funeral ;););)
Reply:I dont think it makes you cheap or a kissup. I just think its sweet =]
Reply:ONLY GET A GIFT IF YOU THINK IT WILL GET YOU SOMEWHERE, IF NOT YOU ARE WASTING YOUR MONEY AS WELL AS YOUR TIME.
Reply:I think kissing butt or not, everyone appreciates a gift. It lets them know you think they are special. Old fashioned courtesy and chivalry are not dead.
Reply:I think in today's society most women do not expect either on the first date. If a guy brings one or the other she is going to think that was so sweet and probably brag to all her friends about it because they probably don't get that. But as for you kissing a$$ or lame that is all up to you. She is going to think of you what she wants depending on the rest of the date not the gift.
Reply:Flowers who does that now and days. If you do give flowers they are only going to die within a few days. Gift, you are the gift. Taking them out on a date is a gift. It does not mean you are a cheapskate unless that person is a gold digger. Also who kisses *** when you have some people giving it away so easily. Sad. Right?
Reply:date the right kind of men
Reply:i have to say i dont care it i get a gift/flower or not. its nice to get one and know they were thinking of u but i think it would be more appciated on a 3 or 4 date after u know what the person would really like
