Pampering at a spa, gift cards and flowers and stuff like that are out of the question. I want something unique..in the past I've given her bath soaps and jewelry.
Gift ideas for my mother in law?
What about something for her home and its original. Try this website, I only have their wedding page marked but you can go from there.

They have a great selection of sizes, colors, wind sail shapes, and they even give you examples of things to say if you cant think of something. Check out their illustration to, I guarantee your gift will really stand out.
Reply:Obviously I don't know our mom in law so this may be scattered but maybe one of these will "click" with you. Our local high school will print T shirts for $7 you can do them yourself form your computer with a kit from office depot and other such places too. If you have children print her a shirt with their photo and "We love you Grandma" or with a drawing one of them made that you have scanned in. No kids- try one with "World's Best Mom in law" and a rose or simply a rose centered and all the family signitures around it or scan in her kids and grand kids pictures and make a grandma brag book shirt. Or if she is not the TShirt type do the same on white cotton and make a pillow or a mini quilt for the back of the couch with that is like a photo album. If she has a treasured pet get something for her and tuck in something for the pet or make the pet's own web page.
If someone in the family has a picture of her parents or grandparents or the place she grew up and she doesn't see if you can scan, print and frame one.
What about CD's of her favorite type music? Or a gift certificate for a place that delivers meals for when she doesn't want to cook. What does she like to do? Can you get something that relates to a hobby whether it is a soap opera she likes or things she likes to make or fancy baking tins, books by a favorite author or CD's of those being read, a video or DVD`of a favorite place.
A really nice sweater or if she is more active a nice sweatshirt. A birdfeeder that attaches to a window and is easy to refill. Health club membership, lessons at something she's always wanted to learn, pottery, painting, bowling whatever.
Having her car professionally pampered and detailed, a mini overnight vacation for 2 so she can take a friend especially to a place that ties into a hobby like Branson if she's into country music. Or tickets to a local performance or sporting event if thise things interest her. The idea is 2 tickets so she can take a friend not have to go alone.
If she has special medical needs something that pampers those a bit wheter it a foot fixer, an alert call system that she can just press a button and it gets help if she is hurt or thinks she hears a prowler. Those are not just for the frail and senile but great for anyone who lives alone. Go to teh web site of any med condition she has and there will be suggestions on gifts most likely.
If she volunteers somewhere or works consider a cake or maybe a breakfast basket delivered there in her honor to share with other volunteers or other staff. If there is an organization that she really cares about maybe a donation in her honor.
One Christmas with bvery little money to spend my husband suggested I go to Dollar Zone and make a basket of inexpensive (obviously considering the store) little pampering things for a friend who was very down, I got a basket and a package of multi pastel net bath puffs and added a tiny bottle of milk bath, some bath sachet, a scented candle, a mug, etc. For her the thing that made it special was a mini pink pig that I accidently found and stuck in the mug because she collects pigs. I'd ratehr have had a tiny teddy bear but when I saw the pig I knew the bear could go. I once made something similar as a grab bag for my mom with one string to pull each day for a week. Silly but fun for her and inexpensive.
Put yourself in her place a few min. If you were her, with her likes, dislikes, limitations and abilities what would make you smile not just when you got it but thinking about it afterwards? She is very blessed to have a daughter in law who cares to give her something special.
Reply:Hell if i had the nerve i would buy mine a broom. Good luck.
Reply:A grandchild
Reply:What kinds of stuff does she like?
What could she use, that she doesn't have, that you know she wants?
(Actually, I don't know why you rule out flowers. For a while, we were giving my Mom gift certificates for flowers that she could use all year. She loved them.)
You haven't told us anything about her.
The idea of giving someone a gift is that you take what you know about the person, and put some thought into getting them something they would like, something they will be happy to own, possibly something useful.
Reply:If you need an original gift try photoartomation (http://www.photoartomation.com ). They convert ordinary photo into Art.
I am very pleased with the painting I received from photoartomation.com. The photo we submitted was not exactly the way we wanted the painting to be, so we asked for some changes, and they were done with no hesitation or complaint. My experience with photoartomation was very pleasant.
Reply:What making her a mini album. I have given these before for numerous occasions and they are always a hit.
You can combine personal / memorable photos with a little creativity to create an awesome gift.
