usually people people buy flowers or ballons. whats a nice original gift? budget around $50 and need it today!!
What gift to take mom/dad of a newborn at the hospital?
Parents always appreciate portraits of their families, children, grandchildren, etc
If you need an original gift try photoartomation (http://www.photoartomation.com/ArtWork/p... ). They convert ordinary photo into Art and print them on canvas.
I am very pleased with the painting I received from photoartomation.com.
The painting is absolutely beautiful! I will definitely use this site to order gifts for people--including myself!

Reply:I am very pleased with the piece of art that http://www.photoartomation.com did for me from ordinary photo of my son and daughter.
I could not believe how true to the photograph they drawing was. It is something that our family will treasure forever. Report It
Reply:A gift card for Target or Babies R Us..its not original, but its what they need!
Reply:I would do a couple of gift cards for $25 each to 2 different restuarants in their area. That way, if they don't feel like cooking, call something in and go pick it up. I would have liked that!!!
Also, give them a Mom/Dad package - bottle of wine, chocolates, massage gift certs, etc to use after recovery period is over for some alone time.
Reply:clothes toys and diapers
Reply:A fruit-and-cheese plate and a bottle of wine. I assure you they've not been eating well since she went into labour...
Reply:Take a gift card to a nice restaurant that they can pick food up from in those first sleepless weeks. They will appreciate it so much since they won't have to cook.
Reply:CONTRASEPTIVES
Reply:I loved when I recieved fresh muffins, hospital food is not the best so it was nice to have a fresh snack. I give that every time.
Reply:If you have a food delivery service in town - from nicer restaurants, get a gc from there. Or an itunes gift card, call it a make your own lullabies gift.
Reply:Nothing is worse than trying to come home from the hospital with a newborn and car full of gifts. It's very frustrating and exhausting!! Gift certificates fit in the purse and much needed for dinner with a newborn.
Reply:gift card..........otherwise they gotta lug 500 ballons and 25 plants/vases home. then they gotta take care of these plants/flowers in addition to a baby! gift card for a restaurant even....somewhere that delivers to their home. or if the gift is for the baby, a gift card for a clothing store for them to use later.
Reply:You could get a really nice Baby Book, where the Parents can keep a record of their child's development.
Reply:Honestly, a nice meal for both parents. Or perhaps coupons for naps for them to take while you watch the baby. Maybe also an offer to come over and help clean/pick up - those were the things that meant so much to me when I had my son. Just the extra support and help.
Reply:Instead of buying something, make your own "coupon" good for one free house cleaning. That is something I would have appreciated because when mom is in the hospital it's just dad at home, nothing gets done. I was so overwhelmed by what I saw when I walked in the door I wanted to cry.
Reply:one thing that couple will always need more of is diapers. you can seriously never have to many diapers. They are probably overloaded with baby clothes but if you want to get them clothes shoot for an older age range, 3-6months instead of newborn (ive still got tags on some of my newborn clothes, but come 6 months i was out!) Also, couples with new babies dont get the chance to make very good meals, so turning that 50 bucks into a certificate at a resturaunt or take out place would be really nice as well.
Reply:The best thing that anyone brought for us in the hospital was dinner from Outback Steakhouse. It was so nice to have something better than hospital food and my husband didn't have to run out to get it!
Reply:If they don't already have a carseat that is a must for new parents. A diaper bag loaded with diapers is also something they are going to need.
Reply:Ear plugs ~ honestly! In the hospital it is hard to get any rest for either the mom or dad!
Reply:food
Reply:I'm really liking the ideas people have given you about food. I am expecting in December and know that if left up to my husband I would have pizza everyday for the first week I was home. Maybe you could pick up some good take-out and deliver it to them. Just give them a card in the hospital with a little note saying what you plan to do.
Reply:my friend brought me a disposable camera which was a good idea I thought because we didn't have any.... When we got the pics developed there were some sayings at the bottom of the picture like "it's a girl!" or something like that. I think she got it in the gift shop. It was a good idea... just tell them about the sayings at the bottom so you can position it right.
Reply:try n do a basket of toiletries that she may need, ie cotton wool balls, baby shampoo, bubble bath, cream, baby wet wipes, nappies/diapers, cotton buds a few newborn vests n a little cuddly toy, n anything else u can think of, then wrap it in clear plastic n tie with a pretty ribbon, its an original idea that someone did for me n it came in very useful.
Reply:how about a g.c. to a restaurant with the offer to babysit when they use it.
Reply:Nappies is a good way to start and how about a hamper for the parents a they will get lots of guests in the coming weeks, packets of biscuits, nice speciality coffee sachets, some packets of sauce (they won't have much time to cook) and maybe a few things they can bash up a meal quick with, like pasta or a pre-made lasagna!!
It's original and at the time I might have thought what. But having been there I think all these things would come in handy.
Reply:Something small because just remember they have to lug all of that stuff home. So I wouldn't get flowers or balloons. THats nice if you are going to see them at home. But I would get a card and maybe an outfit or diapers or something small that they aren't going to be juggling out of the hospital.
Reply:Diapers, but not newborns.....babies don't stay in them long. My kids spent the most time in size 2 and 3.
