What's a nice thing to do for someone after they get a colonoscopy?

My dad is coming home from a colonoscopy this afternoon and I would like to do something nice to let him know that I am thinking about him and hope that he feels better soon.

If it had been my mom getting the surgery, I would have given her flowers and balloons, but my dad doesn't really appreciate those kinds of gifts.

What other kinds of gifts might be more appropriate?

What's a nice thing to do for someone after they get a colonoscopy?
His favorite Restaurant or meal would be great! He will be hungry!!!
Reply:A colonoscopy isn't really a surgery, its a medical procedure done to get a good look at the inside of someones colon. Maybe just hand him the remote and leave him alone for a couple of hours of peace and quiet.
Reply:Its not surgery...He won't be sore,

He will be HUNGRY because he has fasted for some time...There are so many myths about this simple procedure.

Order out his favorite meal or cook something nice for dinner.
Reply:Maybe just offer to get him things so he doesn't have to get up.
Reply:Do NOT offer them Jello.
Reply:Before you have a colonoscopy, you have to fast for three days to clean out the colon (so the surgeon can see clearly). It isn't painful, there are no external incisions - but I'll be he'd really love some of his favorite flavor of ice cream or yogurt - something that is gentle on the digestive tract and won't upset him. Did he have a polypectomy (removal of a cancerous polyp) or was just just a diagnostic procedure?
Reply:beer and vaseline.
Reply:First let him sleep........................rest.

Then give him the remote control, five him fruits, fresh and dried and let him surf the channels...ice cold water and tell him you love him!!! That he's your King....................
Reply:a pin cushion or a dozen throny roses

failing that, give him a hug
Reply:Cook his favourite meal. Remember that he will have had to starve himself since at least the previous afternoon and will have endured the onslaught of the bowel-cleaning preparation.
Reply:Make his favorite seat nice and cushy - his tail end is going to be sore and he'll know you thought of him. Good question!
Reply:make him his tea or just do evertyhing for him , i have had one my self , and you do feel a bit groggy
Reply:tucks medical pads he will need them in the next few days
Reply:actually a colonoscopy is not a surgery. they just look inside to make sure everything is ok. he will be groggy from the anesthesia, but shouldn't be in any pain. maybe you can rent or buy his fave movie and make him dinner. Since the procedure is done, he can go back to eating like normal.
Reply:well, most people want to be alone afterwards (toots) but it's really not too big a deal like surgery. maybe his favorite food or candy or a card.
Reply:FWIW, your dad might appreciate that everything be kept low-key after his date with the "one-eyed butt snake."

Colonoscopy doesn't really hurt, but there can be some uncomfortable gas pains afterwards (they inflate your bowels in the process). The "twilight sleep" medicine they give to people having the procedure may leave your dad a little groggy for a while. Best to let him nap if he wants to.

He'll probably be hungry after the procedure, since he's had to fast for a day beforehand, and we won't even talk about the industrial-strength laxatives he's had to take.

Offer to get him some take-out if he's hungry, and to do whatever is necessary to allow him to rest afterwards if that's what he wants to do. And bear in mind that some people find the procedure embarassing, and he may not want to talk a whole lot about it.

Best wishes to your dad on the procedure, and give him an "attaboy" for taking care of himself by having it done!
Reply:A colonoscopy is not surgery! It is just a medical procedure by which a tube containing a camera is inserted through your anus into your colon to detect any possible lesions or cancerous polyps or other disorders. It is painless and not uncomfortable since you are partially or completely sedated. You should have been more concerned with the steps prior to the procedure itself, that entail drinking a gallon of disgusting liquid, taking a pill that will make you crap like crazy after the 2 enemas you have to do! Just be nice and don't let him exert himself too much and he'll be just fine.
Reply:To be honest, a colonoscopy isn't really a big deal. I've had one, and it's not painful or scary. I think a hug, and maybe make him a meal (whatever time of day it is) will show you care.
