I need a gift idea for old friend I have not seen in years?

Going to see a college friend after a decade long separation. What kind of gift would be appropriate? My friend is a male, so I think flowers or something like that would be too feminine. I just want to have something when he greets me at the airport as a way of showing my appreciation. Any ideas? Since I am flying, it will need to be something that I can take on the plane or put in my checked bags. Thanks for any suggestions!

I would say give him something from the area that you live - that can only really be purchased in your area. If there is a famous restaurant in the city near where you live pick up something from there. Perhaps also a framed photo of a picture of a memorable time in the past.

Reply:Is there any type of book he likes? Does he have a hobby, that you could get something for, or maybe if he works at a desk, a nice paperweight or pen. If all that brings nothing, maybe cuff links, something handy for his key chain, or a tie clasp. Sorry-just can't think of anything else.

Reply:Not an easy one. Forget ties, socks etc. Boring anyway. A good bottle of wine or Scotch, which you can buy in departures before boarding will never fail. Even if the person is a non-drinker, they will have a friend who is.
